The Journey of Our Narrator:

(The above is an overly obtuse reference too The Dark Crystal)

Or How I Broke into Walmart to get a Pizza.

It started as any typical night for me usually does or a lazy Tuesday.

First there were a couple of games of Left 4 Dead with the CAL Team Up in Smoke (their/our web site needs love).

The first scrim was with a team in Chicago, we used their server, on Blood Harvest. Where we proceeded to crush them so badly they rage quit on the second map, on their own Server! That’s like the home team quiting and waling out of the stadium in the middle of the 3rd inning.

The second scrim was with a much more professional team, which we played on our server, on the map No Mercy. They narrowly beat us on the first level, we narrowly beat them on the second level, then crushed them on third, the tied on the fourth and fifth levels. This gave us respectable win, while keeping the game intense and close the whole way.

A good time was had by all, but this is just the beginning of my Epic Adventure.

Now it’s 10:30 at night and I want to go get something to eat. So I have to dig my car out of the snow. A half an hour of digging my car out of the snow later I notice that one of my tires is low. A quick trip to the gas station and viola! Everything is peachy keen and it is now 11:15 PM on a Tuesday night in Juneau Alaska.

Which means nothing is open.

The Gas Stations are not open. The Pizza Parlors are not open. The Bars that serve food are open, but stopped serving food at 9 pm. The Breeze Inn is not open. That Crazy Chinese Restaurant is not open.

It is now 11:58 PM, almost a full hour and a half after I decided it would be nice to get a snack and I am getting desperate. Yet, a light breaks on the heavens and shines down and what is it I see before me but…

Even Walmart is closed at 12:00 in Juneau. Luckily for me it is 11:59 PM, I have ages. As I saunter through the door the greater informs me that “Walmart is closed,” “Don’t worry I’m Just here to pick someone up.” This someone happens to be a Supreme You Bake Pizza. Checking out the Walmart employee raises a brow at my purchase and asks “Hmmm, are you sure those are any good?” Well, I tried to order a Pizza at 11:15, but this is Juneau” A Walmart Supervisor counting out someone else’s till shouts from behind me, “So they were closed!” “And then I tried to go to a restaurant” the Supervisor adds “but they were closed!” “I tried to get something from the Breeze Inn” and the Supervisor concludes “but they were closed too!” Just as I purchase my Pizza the Supervisors Finishes with “And now we are closed, get out.”

Who knew, Walmart is the place for wacky hi-jinx at 12:05 on a Wednesday morning.

Best 7.50 I spent all Week.

TL;DR Version

I played some games and bought a pizza.

Sneek one In

And to wash out the taste of optimism, I give you this.

The King is gone, Long live the King

Tuesday, January 20th, 2009

While my general level of optimism is quite low, the above image does make me all misty eyed.

The new web site is quite sexy I must say, with options for updates, updates!

If not now, when?

In a zombie economy, spurred by non-nonsensical concepts like consumer confidence and other economist-loved noise, where Rome is appearing to teater  –  drunk on lust, war and holy vengeance — will the election of one well spoken law professor really make the difference and bring glory back to the republic?

Ritual and prayer are viloent acts, they attempt to compel divine action. Will our rituals bring us a good harvest? Will the alow us to reap new riches from bitter seed?

The Proclamation

As I take the sacred oath of the highest office in the land, I am humbled by the responsibility placed upon my shoulders, renewed by the courage and decency of the American people, and fortified by my faith in an awesome God.

We are in the midst of a season of trial. Our Nation is being tested, and our people know great uncertainty. Yet the story of America is one of renewal in the face of adversity, reconciliation in a time of discord, and we know that there is a purpose for everything under heaven.

On this Inauguration Day, we are reminded that we are heirs to over two centuries of American democracy, and that this legacy is not simply a birthright — it is a glorious burden. Now it falls to us to come together as a people to carry it forward once more.

So in the words of President Abraham Lincoln, let us remember that: “The mystic chords of memory, stretching from every battlefield and patriot grave to every living heart and hearthstone all over this broad land, will yet swell the chorus of the Union, when again touched, as surely they will be, by the better angels of our nature.”

NOW, THEREFORE, I, BARACK OBAMA, President of the United States of America, by the authority vested in me by the Constitution and laws of the United States, do hereby proclaim January 20, 2009, a National Day of Renewal and Reconciliation, and call upon all of our citizens to serve one another and the common purpose of remaking this Nation for our new century.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand this twentieth day of January, in the year of our Lord two thousand nine, and of the Independence of the United States of America the two hundred and thirty-third.

Star Poop and other Human Progenitors

I found out something amazing today! My 4 mile run is instead 4.1 miles, woooohoooo!

It’s 40 degrees here and kind of perfect. I ran today and it was a little awesome even though my legs hurt. I miss a warm head resting in the crook of my shoulder/collar bone.

Hmmmmmmm.

Also, Cats have Mind Control Powers.

Sadly,

this guy says it better than I probably would have.

There are lots of things I could write, but just read the above.

Bitter Sweets

Wednesday, January 14th, 2009

Please forgive the language.

I did a short run up, down, up and back down a hill today and it went great! My shins hurt however. This is somewhat troubling.

Spiders!

Please forgive the lack of smarty-pants-ness today. Here is some from elsewhere.

I did not run today, but in my defense it was really cold today.

Weekend Snow

Monday, January 5th, 2009

It snowed about 15 inches over the weekend. This has, once again, totaly destroyed me.
